HISTORIC DOWNTOWN JASPER

THE OLD PICKENS COUNTY JAIL

Originally saved and placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the Marble Valley Historical Society in 1982, this marble-clad landmark is now a must-visit destination maintained by the Pickens County Historical Society.

Explore the "escape-proof" cells and local law enforcement exhibits during regular museum tours, or - if you’re feeling brave - join in for an after-hours ghost tour to see who might still be lingering in the cellblocks!  From local history to paranormal mystery, there’s something for everyone at the Old Jail.

KIRBY-QUINTON CABIN

The cabin was constructed in 1975 under the direction of the late Tom Quinton using logs from the original cabin once occupied by Charles “Tsali” Dunbean. After moving from Spartanburg District, South Carolina, Stephen Kirby settled in the cabin following the Cherokee removal and later raised a second family there with his wife, Mary Mann. After Mr. Quinton’s death, his family donated the cabin’s furnishings to the Pickens County School Board, which authorized the Marble Valley Historical Society to relocate the structure beside the Old Pickens County Jail in 1997.
